Abstract
A fan includes a motor, an impeller and a stator. The fan defines an air flow passage between an air inlet and an air outlet. The fan has a mode of operation and an arrangement such that, in use, the trajectory of the air flow through the air inlet is up to 360° in a direction which is generally perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the impeller. The trajectory of the air flow through the air outlet is up to 360° in a direction which is generally perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the impeller, and the air flow through the air flow passage turns generally 180°. The fan has a mode of constant operation, and, in this mode, the operating point of the fan falls with the stall region of the fan characteristic.
Claims25
A fan, comprising:
- a motor,
- an impeller having an impeller axis of rotation, and
- a stator, so as to define an air flow passage between an air inlet and an air outlet and a fan characteristic with a stall region,
- wherein said motor, said impeller and said stator have a mode of operation and an arrangement so that an inlet air flow has an inlet trajectory through the air inlet of up to 360° in a direction perpendicular to said impeller axis of rotation, an outlet air flow has an outlet trajectory through the air outlet of up to 360° in a direction perpendicular to said impeller axis of rotation, and a passage air flow through the air flow passage has a 180° turn, and
- wherein said mode of operation is a mode of constant operation with a set point within said stall region of said fan characteristic, such that the fan is constantly operating within the stall region, so as to sustain a radial outlet effect.
