Abstract
Methods and compositions for depolymerizing the polymer component of fiber reinforced polymers to facilitate the recovery of free fibers.
Claims27
A depolymerization composition comprising an ionic liquid and a protective compound that protects the ionic liquid from degradation, wherein the depolymerization composition has a temperature at which the protective compound and the ionic liquid are each fluids, and wherein the depolymerization composition comprises from about 1 to about 50 wt % of the ionic liquid and from about 50 to about 99 wt % of the protective compound, based on the weight of liquid components.
A depolymerization mixture comprising a carbon fiber reinforced polymer, an ionic liquid and a protective compound that protects the ionic liquid from degradation, wherein the depolymerization mixture has a temperature at which the protective compound and the ionic liquid are each fluids, and wherein the mixture includes from about 1 to about 50 wt % ionic liquid and from about 50 to about 99 wt % protective compound.
