Abstract
A bone fastener comprises a first member defining a plurality of grooves. A coupling member is disposed with the first member. A first band and a second band are disposable within the grooves. A second member is configured to penetrate tissue and includes a head engageable with the first band to provisionally connect the first member to the second member. The coupling member is engageable with a part to move the part relative to the first member into engagement with the second band to dispose the second band adjacent the first band to connect the first member to the second member. Systems, surgical instruments, implants and methods are disclosed.
Claims20
A bone fastener comprising:
- a first member defining a plurality of grooves and including a removable support;
- a coupling member disposed with the first member;
- a first band configured for disposal within the grooves;
- a second band configured for disposal within the grooves;
- a second member configured to penetrate tissue and including a head engageable with the first band to provisionally connect the first member to the second member;
- and
- a part releasably engaged with the first member,
- the coupling member being engageable with the removable support, and the coupling member being engageable with the part to move the part relative to the first member into engagement with the second band to dispose the second band adjacent the first band to connect the first member to the second member.
A single level spinal construct comprising:
- a first bone fastener including
- a body defining a plurality of grooves and including a removable spinal rod support,
- a set screw disposed with the body,
- a first band configured for disposal within the grooves and a second band configured for disposal within the grooves,
- a shaft configured to penetrate tissue and including a head engageable with the first band to provisionally connect the body to the shaft, and
- a crown releasably engaged with the body such that the set screw is engageable with the crown to move the crown relative to the body into engagement with the second band to dispose the second band adjacent the first band to connect the body to the shaft;
- a second bone fastener including a removable spinal rod support;
- and
- a spinal rod.
A spinal implant system comprising:
- at least one bone fastener including
- a body defining a plurality of grooves and including a removable support,
- a set screw disposed with the body,
- a first band configured for disposal within the grooves and a second band configured for disposal within the grooves,
- a shaft configured to penetrate tissue and including a head engageable with the first band to provisionally connect the body to the shaft, and
- a crown releasably engaged with the body such that the set screw is engageable with the crown to move the crown relative to the body into engagement with the second band to dispose the second band adjacent the first band to connect the body to the shaft,
- wherein the body is selected from a plurality of alternate bodies and the shaft includes a mating surface engageable with the body such that the shaft is interchangeable with the plurality of bodies.
