Abstract
An expandable reamer includes, inter alia, an outer tube, an inner shaft, a movable blade, and an actuator assembly. The expandable reamers can be used to remove diseased bone.
Claims20
An expandable reamer, comprising:
- an outer tube;
- an inner shaft disposed within the outer tube;
- a blade connected to the inner shaft and movable between a first position in which the blade is inside the outer tube and a second position in which the blade is exposed outside of the outer tube;
- and
- an actuator assembly configured to move the blade between the first position and the second position and including a selector sleeve and an actuator,
- wherein the selector sleeve is rotatable to linearly translate the actuator and either the inner shaft or the outer tube.

An expandable reamer, comprising:
- an outer tube;
- an inner shaft disposed within the outer tube;
- a blade connected to the inner shaft and movable between a first position in which the blade is inside the outer tube and a second position in which the blade is exposed outside of the outer tube;
- an actuator assembly configured to move the blade between the first position and the second position,
- wherein the actuator assembly includes a selector sleeve that is rotatable to linearly translate either the inner shaft or the outer tube;
- and
- a cam cap configured to guide movement of the blade outwardly of the outer tube,
- wherein the cam cap is positioned within a distal portion of the outer tube.

- wherein the actuator assembly includes a selector sleeve that is rotatable to linearly translate either the inner shaft or the outer tube;

- a cam cap configured to guide movement of the blade outwardly of the outer tube,
- wherein the cam cap includes a slanted wall that guides the blade along an arced path as the blade is moved between the first position and the second position.
