Abstract
The present invention relates to methods and devices for characterizing wounds, and in particular to the use of Raman spectroscopy to characterize the state of healing of a wound.
Claims2
A method of identifying basis spectra and factor loadings for use in characterizing the healing stage of a wound comprising:
- measuring a plurality of wounds at hemostasis, inflammation and proliferative stages of wound healing in live subjects with a Raman spectrometer to obtain measured Raman spectra;
- via a computer processor, decomposing said measured Raman spectra from said plurality of wounds at the hemostasis, inflammation and proliferative stages of wound healing into basis spectra by multivariate factor analysis;
- assigning factor loadings by determining weights for each basis spectrum as a function of time for the hemostasis, inflammation and proliferative stages of wound healing.
