Abstract
A disclosed example of managing a network includes a packet receiver to receive a packet at a second switch from a first switch via an inter-switch link between the first and second switches; a packet analyzer to determine whether the packet includes a load-based teaming (LBT) egress control value; a packet transmitter to handle the packet according to an LBT policy when the packet analyzer determines the packet does not include the LBT egress control value; and a packet modifier to terminate the packet at the second switch when the packet analyzer determines the packet does include the LBT egress control value.
Claims18
An apparatus to manage a network, the apparatus comprising:
- packet receiver circuitry to receive a first packet at a second switch from a first switch via an inter-switch link between the first and second switches, the second switch in communication with a first host;
- packet analyzer circuitry to determine whether the first packet includes a load-based teaming (LBT) egress control value;
- packet transmitter circuitry to:
- handle the first packet according to an LBT policy when the packet analyzer circuitry determines the first packet does not include the LBT egress control value;
- and
- send a second packet from the second switch to the first switch via the inter-switch link when the second switch loses network connectivity with a second host that is in communication with the first switch, the second packet having a source address corresponding to the first host and a destination address corresponding to the second host, the second host to receive the second packet from the first switch without the second host receiving the second packet from the second switch;
- and
- packet modifier circuitry to terminate the first packet at the second switch when the packet analyzer circuitry determines the first packet does include the LBT egress control value.
A non-transitory computer readable medium comprising instructions that, when executed, cause one or more processors to at least:
- determine whether a first packet includes a load-based teaming (LBT) egress control value, the first packet received at a second switch from a first switch via an inter-switch link between the first and second switches, the second switch in communication with a first host;
- when the first packet does not include the LBT egress control value, handle the first packet according to an LBT policy;
- when the first packet does include the LBT egress control value, terminate the first packet at the second switch without re-transmitting the first packet from the second switch;
- and
- send a second packet from the second switch to the first switch via the inter-switch link when the second switch loses network connectivity with a second host that is in communication with the first switch, the second packet having a source address corresponding to the first host and a destination address corresponding to the second host, the second host to receive the second packet from the first switch without the second host receiving the second packet from the second switch.
A method to manage a network, the method comprising:
- receiving first and second packets at a second switch from a first switch via an inter-switch link between the first and second switches, the second switch in communication with a first host;
- determining whether the first and second packets include a load-based teaming (LBT) egress control value;
- in response to the first packet not including the LBT egress control value, handling the first packet according to an LBT policy;
- in response to the second packet including the LBT egress control value, terminating the second packet at the second switch without re-transmitting the second packet from the second switch;
- and
- sending a third packet from the second switch to the first switch via the inter-switch link when the second switch loses network connectivity with a second host that is in communication with the first switch, the third packet having a source address corresponding to the first host and a destination address corresponding to the second host, the second host to receive the third packet from the first switch without the second host receiving the third packet from the second switch.
An apparatus comprising:
- at least one memory;
- instructions in the apparatus;
- and
- processor circuitry to execute the instructions to:
- receive a first packet at a second switch from a first switch via an inter-switch link between the first and second switches, the second switch in communication with a first host;
- determine whether the first packet includes a load-based teaming (LBT) egress control value;
- handle the first packet according to an LBT policy when the first packet does not include the LBT egress control value;
- terminate the first packet at the second switch when the first packet does include the LBT egress control value;
- and
- send a second packet from the second switch to the first switch via the inter-switch link when the second switch loses network connectivity with a second host that is in communication with the first switch, the second packet having a source address corresponding to the first host and a destination address corresponding to the second host, the second host to receive the second packet from the first switch without the second host receiving the second packet from the second switch.
