Abstract
A tablet-like device is configured to have a slightly negative buoyancy and to hold a sheet of waterproof synthetic paper, or another removable, waterproof recording sheet, onto which notes or messages or sketches can be recorded via a writing implement, in an underwater or marine environment, or another extreme or severe environment. Since the tablet device is configured for use of sheets of waterproof synthetic paper, divers can work with their own personal pre-printed material underwater. Further, the tablet device also has the advantages of cost savings and reduced environmental impact.

A tablet device configured for recording notes or messages or sketches with a writing implement onto a removable, waterproof note-recording medium sheet, in an underwater or extreme environment, comprising:
- a support palette to support the removable, waterproof note-recording medium sheet on a front surface of the support palette;
- and
- a frame assembly including a front frame member and a back frame member coupled to each other, each of the front frame member and the back frame member extending longitudinally beyond a top edge and a bottom edge of the support palette,
- the front frame member having a frame portion circumscribing an opening portion through which information recorded on an information-bearing portion of the waterproof note-recording medium sheet is to be visually discerned and through which the writing implement can contact said information-bearing portion of the waterproof note-recording medium sheet to apply notes or markings thereon,
- wherein the front and back frame members are configured such that when the support palette bearing the sheet of waterproof note-recording medium has been inserted in the frame assembly, the front frame member holds in place against the front surface of the support palette a periphery portion surrounding the information-bearing portion of the waterproof note-recording medium sheet onto which notes or markings have been or are to be applied.
Plural tablet device units each configured for recording notes or messages or sketches with a writing implement onto a removable, waterproof note-recording medium sheet, in an underwater or extreme environment, each tablet device unit amongst the plural tablet device units comprising:
- a support palette to support, on a front surface of the support palette, the removable, waterproof note-recording medium sheet, the support palette having a handle attached to a proximal side, opposite to a distal edge, of the support palette;
- and
- a frame assembly including a front frame member and a back frame member coupled to each other, each of the front frame member and the back frame member extending longitudinally beyond a top edge and a bottom edge of the support palette,
- one or both of the front frame member and the back frame member having a slot portion to form a slot on a side of said frame assembly corresponding to the proximal side of the support palette opposite to the distal edge of the support palette, the slot being configured to have a shape and size to permit the support palette to be slidably inserted into, and removed from, the frame assembly through said slot,
- the front frame member having a frame portion circumscribing an opening portion through which information recorded on a corresponding portion of the waterproof note-recording medium sheet is to be visually discerned and through which the writing implement can contact said portion of the waterproof note-recording medium sheet to apply notes or markings thereon, wherein
- each frame member amongst the front and back frame members includes one or more connector receptacles disposed at respective predetermined locations in a surface of the frame member, each connector receptacle configured to receive a device connector having a predetermined shape complementary to that of the connector receptacle, and wherein
- a first tablet device unit and a second tablet device unit, which are amongst the plural tablet device units, are connected by a device connector inserted in a connector receptacle disposed in a surface of the front frame member of the second unit and in a connector receptacle disposed in a surface of the back frame member of the first unit.
Plural tablet device units each configured for recording notes or messages or sketches with a writing implement onto a removable, waterproof note-recording medium sheet, in an underwater or extreme environment, each tablet device unit amongst the plural tablet device units comprising:
- a support palette to support, on a front surface of the support palette, the removable, waterproof note-recording medium sheet, the support palette having a handle attached to a proximal side, opposite to a distal edge, of the support palette;
- and
- a frame assembly including a front frame member and a back frame member coupled to each other, each of the front frame member and the back frame member extending longitudinally beyond a top edge and a bottom edge of the support palette,
- one or both of the front frame member and the back frame member having a slot portion to form a slot on a side of said frame assembly corresponding to the proximal side of the support palette opposite to the distal edge of the support palette, the slot being configured to have a shape and size to permit the support palette to be slidably inserted into, and removed from, the frame assembly through said slot,
- the front frame member having a frame portion circumscribing an opening portion through which information recorded on a corresponding portion of the waterproof note-recording medium sheet is to be visually discerned and through which the writing implement can contact said portion of the waterproof note-recording medium sheet to apply notes or markings thereon, wherein
- each frame member amongst the front and back frame members includes at least two through-holes each disposed near said distal edge and each configured to be penetrated by a removable ring or tie-lock of a predetermined size, and wherein
- the plural tablet device units are held together as a collection by at least two removable rings or tie-locks penetrating the respective through-holes of each of the plural tablet device units in the collection.
A tablet device configured for recording notes or messages or sketches with a writing implement onto a removable, waterproof note-recording medium sheet, in an underwater or extreme environment, comprising:
- a support palette to support the removable, waterproof note-recording medium sheet on a front surface of the support palette;
- and
- a frame assembly including a front frame member and a back frame member coupled to each other, each of the front frame member and the back frame member extending longitudinally beyond a top edge and a bottom edge of the support palette, wherein
- the removable, waterproof note-recording medium sheet is a sheet folded over the support palette to include (i) a front-facing portion covering most of the front surface of the support palette and (ii) a rear-facing portion covering most of the back surface of the support palette, and
- the front frame member includes a front frame portion circumscribing a front opening portion through which information recorded on the front-facing portion of the waterproof note-recording medium sheet is to be visually discerned and through which the writing implement can contact said front-facing portion of the waterproof note-recording medium sheet to apply notes or markings thereon, and
- the back frame member includes a back frame portion circumscribing a back opening portion through which information recorded on the rear-facing portion of the waterproof note-recording medium sheet is to be visually discerned and through which the writing implement can contact said rear-facing portion of the waterproof note-recording medium sheet to apply notes or markings thereon.
