Abstract
Some aspects of the present disclosure relate to detection of a Phase Hit and, upon detecting the Phase Hit, determining the magnitude and location of the Phase Hit. Detecting the Phase Hit may involve comparing a phase offset difference for successive pilot symbol to a detection threshold. Determination of the detection threshold may involve a Neyman-Pearson binary hypothesis testing (NP-BHT) approach. Once the magnitude and location of the Phase Hit are known, data symbols received after the location may be processed to remove the magnitude of the Phase Hit.
Claims18
A method for mitigating an occurrence of a phase hit, the method comprising:
- receiving a signal comprising a plurality of data symbols and a plurality of pilot symbols;
- detecting a first phase offset between a signal from a local oscillator and a first pilot symbol among the plurality of pilot symbols;
- detecting a second phase offset between the signal from the local oscillator and a second pilot symbol among the plurality of pilot symbols, the second pilot symbol successive to the first pilot symbol;
- and
- responsive to determining that a phase hit has occurred, processing each respective data symbol in a phase hit pilot section, defined as being between the first pilot symbol and the second pilot symbol, that is at a location subsequent to a location of the phase hit,
- wherein a phase hit is determined to have occurred when a phase offset difference between the first phase offset and the second phase offset exceeds a detection threshold and
- wherein the processing comprises:
- determining a magnitude of the phase hit;
- and
- altering a phase of each respective data symbol by the magnitude of the phase hit.
An apparatus for mitigating an occurrence of a phase hit, the apparatus comprising:
- a receiver configured to receive a signal comprising a plurality of data symbols and a plurality of pilot symbols;
- a local oscillator;
- and
- a processor configured to:
- detect a first phase offset between a signal from the local oscillator and a first pilot symbol among the plurality of pilot symbols;
- detect a second phase offset between the signal from the local oscillator and a second pilot symbol among the plurality of pilot symbols, the second pilot symbol successive to the first pilot symbol;
- and
- determine that a phase hit has occurred when a phase offset difference between the first phase offset and the second phase offset exceeds a detection threshold;
- and
- process each respective data symbol in a phase hit pilot section, defined as being between the first pilot symbol and the second pilot symbol, that is at a location subsequent to a location of the phase hit, the processing including determining a magnitude of the phase hit and altering a phase of each respective data symbol by the magnitude of the phase hit.
A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to:
- receive a signal comprising a plurality of data symbols and a plurality of pilot symbols;
- detect a first phase offset between a signal from a local oscillator and a first pilot symbol among the plurality of pilot symbols;
- detect a second phase offset between the signal from the local oscillator and a second pilot symbol among the plurality of pilot symbols, the second pilot symbol successive to the first pilot symbol;
- and
- process each respective data symbol, in a phase hit pilot section that is defined as being between the first pilot symbol and the second pilot symbol, that is at a location subsequent to a location of the phase hit,
- wherein a phase hit is determined to have occurred when a phase offset difference between the first phase offset and the second phase offset exceeds a detection threshold, and
- wherein the processing comprises:
- determining a magnitude of the phase hit;
- and
- altering a phase of each respective data symbol by the magnitude of the phase hit.
