Abstract
Devices, systems and methods including a spray chamber are described. In certain examples, the spray chamber may be configured with an outer chamber configured to provide tangential gas flows. In other instances, an inner tube can be positioned within the outer chamber and may comprise a plurality of microchannels. In some examples, the outer chamber may comprise dual gas inlet ports. In some instances, the spray chamber may be configured to provide tangential gas flow and laminar gas flows to prevent droplet formation on surfaces of the spray chamber. Optical emission devices, optical absorption devices and mass spectrometers using the spray chamber are also described.
Claims18
A spray chamber comprising:
- an outer chamber comprising an inlet end, an outlet end, and a drain, wherein the inlet end is configured to couple to a nebulizer to receive a liquid sample from the nebulizer, and wherein the outlet end is configured to provide an aerosolized sample spray;
- and
- an inner tube within the outer chamber, the inner tube comprising a plurality of microchannels, wherein at least one of the plurality of microchannels is sized and arranged to receive makeup gas to reduce droplet deposition on the inner tube.
A spray chamber configured to fluidically couple to a liquid sample delivery device at an inlet end and to provide a spray of aerosolized analyte at an outlet end to an ionization device fluidically coupled to the spray chamber, the spray chamber comprising an outer chamber and an inner tube within the outer chamber, wherein the outer chamber comprises a gas inlet port configured to fluidically couple to a makeup gas source configured to provide a makeup gas to provide tangential gas flow within the outer chamber and reduce droplet deposition on the inner tube within the outer chamber.
