Abstract
An aircraft-based power system includes at least one smart universal serial bus (USB-PD (Power Delivery)) outlet. The at least one smart universal serial bus (USB-PD (Power Delivery)) outlet being configured to connect to a power bus that receives power from a power source system. The at least one smart universal serial bus (USB-PD (Power Delivery)) outlet is further configured to control power delivery.
Claims20
An aircraft-based power system comprising:
- at least one smart universal serial bus power delivery (USB-PD) outlet;
- the at least one smart universal serial bus power delivery (USB-PD) outlet being configured to connect to power lines of a power bus to provide power to a user device and the power bus receives power from a power source system;
- the power source system is configured to generate an output characteristic on at least one of the power lines of the power bus indicating a total system power loading;
- and
- the at least one smart universal serial bus power delivery (USB-PD) outlet is further configured to sense the output characteristic on the at least one of the power lines of the power bus from the power source system, calculate a present capacity available from the power bus based on the output characteristic on the power bus from the power source system, and negotiate a level of power delivery to the user device based on the output characteristic on the power bus from the power source system and/or the present capacity available from the power bus.
