## Abstract

A method for enhancing or reducing photosynthetic activity, wherein non-toxic, pigmented matter is applied to a photosynthetic organism. Depending on the composition of the pigmented matter, the method will have the effect of enhancing, reducing, or inhibiting photosynthetic activity.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method for inhibiting growth of a photosynthetic organism, comprising applying a red pigmented matter, comprising a red pigment, to a surface of the photosynthetic organism in the absence of a fertilizer; wherein the red pigment inhibits the growth of the photosynthetic organism.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the red pigmented matter is applied in the form of a solution, a liquid suspension, a gel, a dust, a powder, or a pellet.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The method of claim 2, wherein the red pigmented matter is applied in the form of a solution; and the solution further comprises an adhesive material.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the red pigmented matter is applied to the surface of the photosynthetic organism by spraying, misting, or wiping a leaf, a seed, a stem, or any combination thereof.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the photosynthetic organism is a competitive plant.

### Claim 6 (depends on 2)

The method of claim 2, wherein the photosynthetic organism is a competitive plant.

### Claim 7 (depends on 3)

The method of claim 3, wherein the photosynthetic organism is a competitive plant.

### Claim 8 (depends on 4)

The method of claim 4, wherein the photosynthetic organism is a competitive plant.
