Abstract
A rotary tool can be adapted for removing material from a workpiece such as a lower receiver. A rotary tool can have an adapter with a major diameter, and a cutter head with a minor diameter. The major diameter of the adapter can reduce deflection and chatter, while the minor diameter of the cutter head can be used to manufacture lower receivers with accuracy. The rotary tool can be adapted to be engaged with a rotary power tool.
Claims10
A rotary tool comprising:
- an adapter having an extension portion and a shaft portion, the extension portion having an engagement diameter and an extension length and configured to be received within a rotary power tool collet, the shaft portion of the adapter having a major diameter greater than the engagement diameter of the extension portion;
- and
- a milling tool having a cutter head and a shaft, a first end of the shaft engaged with the shaft portion of the adapter by a thermal fit, the cutter head having a minor diameter less than the major diameter of the shaft;
- and
- wherein an overall length of the rotary tool is configured to be greater than a distance between a top surface of a buffer tower of a firearm lower receiver and a bottom of a trigger cavity of the firearm lower receiver such that the rotary tool can be coupled with the rotary power tool collet and the rotary power tool collet avoids the buffer tower when used to mill the trigger cavity of the firearm lower receiver.
