Abstract
The present technology is directed to a remotely controlled aircraft that can be transported without the risk of damaging certain components, such as the arms and/or propellers. In one non-limiting example, the remotely controlled aircraft technology described herein provides a housing that allows the arms of the remotely controlled aircraft to extend and/or retract through openings in the housing. When retracted, the arms and propellers are protected within an area of the structure of the housing, and when extended, the arms and propellers are operable to make the remotely controlled aircraft fly.
Claims18
A handheld aircraft having a housing configured for aeronautical navigation, the handheld aircraft comprising:
- a frame assembly having:
- at least four electrical contacts;
- and
- a plurality of openings, wherein the at least four electrical contacts are positioned in four openings, of the plurality of openings, of the frame assembly;
- a gear that is positioned within one of the plurality of openings of the frame assembly;
- at least four arms operatively coupled to the frame assembly and the gear, wherein:
- the at least four arms are configured to be extendable and retractable from one or more openings in the housing by operation of the gear,
- each arm from the at least four arms having an electrical contact, and
- each arm from the at least four arms having a wire connected to the electrical contact of each arm;
- at least four propellers operatively coupled to the at least four arms, respectively, wherein:
- each propeller includes a propeller motor;
- each propeller motor is connected to the electrical contact of each arm via the wire of each arm,
- the at least four propellers configured to enable the housing to perform aeronautical navigation, and
- when the at least four arms are fully extended, the electrical contacts on each arm slide along the openings of the frame assembly and make contact with each of the at least four electrical contacts of the frame assembly thereby switching the at least four propellers to an on state by providing power to the at least four propeller motors via the wire connected to the electrical contact of each arm;
- and
- a control system configured to control the aeronautical navigation of the housing.
An aircraft having a housing configured for aeronautical navigation, the aircraft comprising:
- a frame assembly having:
- an electrical contact;
- and
- a plurality of openings, wherein the electrical contact is positioned in an opening, of the plurality of openings, of the frame assembly;
- a gear that is positioned within one of the plurality of openings of the frame assembly;
- at least one arm operatively coupled to the frame assembly and the gear, wherein:
- the at least one arm configured to be extended and/or retracted from an opening in the housing by operation of the gear,
- the at least one arm having an electrical contact, and
- the at least one arm having a wire connected to the electrical contact of the at least one arm;
- at least one propeller operatively coupled to the at least one arm, wherein:
- the at least one propeller includes a propeller motor;
- the propeller motor is connected to the electrical contact of the at least one arm via the wire;
- and
- when the at least one arm is fully extended, the electrical contact on the at least one arm slides along the opening of the frame assembly and makes contact with the electrical contact of the frame assembly thereby switching the at least one propeller to an on state by providing power to the at least one propeller motor via the wire connected to the electrical contact of the at least one arm;
- and
- a control system configured to control movement of the aircraft.
A system, comprising:
- an aircraft having a housing configured for aeronautical navigation, the aircraft comprising:
- a frame assembly having:
- at least four electrical contacts;
- and
- a plurality of openings, wherein the at least four electrical contacts are positioned in four openings, of the plurality of openings, of the frame assembly;
- a gear that is positioned within one of the plurality of openings of the frame assembly;
- at least four arms operatively coupled to the frame assembly and the gear, wherein:
- the at least four arms are configured to be extendable and retractable from one or more openings in the housing by operation of the gear,
- each arm from the at least four arms having an electrical contact, and
- each arm from the at least four arms having a wire connected to the electrical contact of each arm;
- at least four propellers operatively coupled to the at least four arms, respectively, wherein:
- each propeller includes a propeller motor;
- each propeller motor is connected to the electrical contact of each arm via the wire of each arm;
- the at least four propellers configured to enable the housing to perform aeronautical navigation, and
- when the at least four arms are fully extended, the electrical contacts on each arm slide along the openings of the frame assembly and make contact with each of the at least four electrical contacts of the frame assembly thereby switching the at least four propellers to an on state by providing power to the at least four propeller motors via the wire connected to the electrical contact of each arm;
- and
- a control system configured to control the aeronautical navigation of the housing;
- and
- an electronic device configured to communicate with the aircraft via the control system.
