Abstract
The invention provides assemblies for production of sound using a plurality of configurations, including in one embodiment, surfaces that may be fixed or moveable relative to each other. These surfaces may be electromagnetic, electrostatic, piezoelectric, transducer implemented, thermally activated, permanently magnetized, or activated by any other means, including but not limited to mechanical activation. The surfaces may in a variety of configurations be free floating, constrained, levitated or combinations thereof. The surfaces themselves may be foldable, rollable, expandable, specialized or any combinations thereof.
Claims29
An assembly for generating sound, the assembly comprising:
- a first surface;
- a second surface;
- wherein the first surface is a magnetized diaphragm, the magnetized diaphragm comprising or having disposed thereon or therewithin, a permanent magnet or magnetically sensitive particles or one or more magnetically sensitive layers, wherein the magnetically sensitive particles or the one or more magnetically sensitive layers are at least one of:
- affixed onto the magnetized diaphragm, affixed within the magnetized diaphragm, coated onto the magnetized diaphragm, embedded within the magnetized diaphragm, and sandwiched within the magnetized diaphragm;
- wherein the second surface is coupled with an electromagnetic field generating structure or with a permanently magnetized means;
- and wherein the magnetized diaphragm and the second surface are positioned and interspaced relative to each other, such that at least one of the first surface and the second surface is impelled to move relative to the other of the first surface and the second surface, by an electromagnetic field generated by application of a current across the electromagnetic field generating structure that is coupled with the second surface, or by application of a magnetic field generated by the permanently magnetized means that is coupled with the second surface.
An assembly for generating sound, the assembly comprising:
- a moveable first surface having an at-rest position;
- a moveable second surface having an at-rest position;
- wherein the first surface is a diaphragm comprising an electrically conductive mesh structure;
- wherein the second surface is coupled with an electrostatic field generating structure, or is activated by an electromagnetic field, or by a permanently magnetized means;
- wherein the first surface and the second surface are interspaced from each other,
- wherein the first surface and the second surface are both adjustable between a rest phase and an excited phase,
- wherein, in the excited phase, in response to generation of an electrostatic field by the electrostatic field generating structure or activation of the second surface by the electromagnetic field or by the permanently magnetized means, at least one of the first surface and the second surface moves from the respective at-rest position,
- and wherein, in the rest phase, in response to removal of the generated electrostatic field or termination of activation of the second surface by the electromagnetic field or by the permanently magnetized means, at least one of the first surface and the second surface which was in the excited phase resumes the respective at-rest position.
