Abstract
The invention relates to pharmaceutical compositions comprising calcium lactate as an active agent and a polysaccharide, polymer, lipid, or a combination thereof. The pharmaceutical compositions are useful treating cancer. The invention also relates to foods and nutrient compositions comprising calcium lactate.
Claims19
A method for treating colorectal cancer in a human subject in need thereof comprising:
- administering to the human subject an enteric coated oral composition, as a unit dose, comprising a therapeutically effective amount of calcium lactate, to a human subject in need thereof;
- wherein the oral composition comprising calcium lactate further comprises a polysaccharide, and is formulated for rapid disintegration in the intestinal environment, and the oral composition is coated with a pharmaceutically acceptable enteric coating;
- and
- wherein the therapeutically effective amount of calcium lactate in the unit dose ranges from 100 mg to 1000 mg,
- wherein the enteric coating comprises a hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose phthalate (HPMCP), cellulose acetate phthalate (CAP), polyvinyl acetate phthalate (PVAP), shellac, polymer of methacrylic acid and an ester thereof, or combinations thereof, and
- wherein the weight ratio of the calcium lactate and the enteric coating is from 10:0.5 to 1:1.5.
