Doors containing core inserts, and method of making the same

A method of making a paneled door, comprising:

• a) providing a first door facing having a first raised panel region, the first door facing having an interior surface and an exterior surface;
• b) adhesively securing a plurality of foam core inserts formed from a polymer material to the interior surface in at least the first panel region;
• c) providing a door frame, and adhesively securing the door frame about the first door facing;
• d) providing a second door facing having a second raised panel region, the second door facing having an interior surface and an exterior surface;
• and
• e) adhesively securing the second door facing to the foam core inserts and to the door frame, wherein the interior surface of the second door facing faces the interior surface of the first door facing and the foam core inserts have a thickness sufficient to span the distance between the interior surfaces of the first and second door facings, wherein the foam core inserts are secured to the second door facing with an adhesive that is a different type than the adhesive used to secure the first door facing to the core inserts.
