Abstract
Aerogel materials, aerogel composites and the like may be improved by enhancing their smoke suppression, combustion reduction properties. It is additionally useful to provide aerogel based composites compatible with environments conducive to combustion. Such aerogel materials and methods of manufacturing the same are described.
Claims23
An aerogel composition comprising (i) a fibrous structure, (ii) a silica aerogel material within the fibrous structure, and (iii) a smoke suppressing filler, the smoke suppressing filler comprising hydroxides, borates, silicates, carbonates, oxides, or combinations thereof, at least a portion of the smoke suppressing filler being in hydrated form, wherein the smoke suppressing filler comprises particles embedded within the aerogel.
An aerogel composition comprising (i) a flexible reinforcing structure and (ii) a silica aerogel material within the reinforcing structure, the silica aerogel material comprising:
- (a) an aerogel material and (b) a smoke suppressing filler, wherein the smoke suppressing filler comprises hydroxides, borates, silicates, carbonates, oxides, or combinations thereof;
- and at least a portion of the smoke suppressing filler being in hydrated form.
