Abstract
Some embodiments include electric power demand stabilization methods and systems that may include receiving an indication that a specific controllable device will have a high power draw event; retrieving a power draw profile for the specific controllable device that includes at least a maximum power draw and an event duration; identifying a plurality of low priority controllable devices with a combined power draw that is substantially equal to the maximum power draw of the specific controllable device; and turning off the plurality of low priority controllable devices for a time period substantially equal to the event duration.
Claims16
An electric power demand stabilization method within a cold storage facility, the method comprising:
- receiving at a facility coordinator an instruction from a remote device external from the cold storage facility to turn on a compressor within the cold storage facility;
- retrieving a power draw profile for the compressor that includes at least the startup power draw for the compressor, a maximum power draw for the cold storage facility, and a startup power draw duration;
- identifying a plurality of lower priority controllable devices within the cold storage facility having a priority lower than the compressor and with a combined power draw that is substantially equal to the startup power draw of the compressor, wherein each of the plurality of lower priority controllable devices includes a device selected from the group consisting of a motor, fan, valve, vessel, evaporator, pump, compressor, door, lighting, and defrost equipment;
- and
- turning off the plurality of lower priority controllable devices for a time period substantially equal to the startup power draw duration.
An electric power demand stabilization method at a cold storage facility, the method comprising:
- receiving an instruction to turn on a compressor with a high startup power draw;
- retrieving a power draw profile for the compressor that includes a power draw for each period of time over a startup duration and a maximum power draw;
- identifying a plurality of lower priority controllable devices with a combined power draw that is greater than or equal to the maximum power draw of the compressor, wherein each of the plurality of lower priority controllable devices includes a device selected from the group consisting of a motor, fan, valve, vessel, evaporator, pump, compressor, door, lighting, and defrost equipment;
- and
- turning down the power to the plurality of lower priority controllable devices by an amount equal to the power draw profile of the compressor at a given time.
A cold storage facility control system comprising:
- a plurality of controllable devices;
- a plurality of sensors configured to measure aspects of a facility environment;
- and
- a facility coordinator in communication with the plurality of controllable devices and the plurality of environmental sensors, the facility coordinator is configured to:
- receive an instruction to turn on a compressor with a high startup power draw, wherein the plurality of controllable devices includes the compressor;
- retrieve a power draw profile from a database for the compressor, the power draw profile includes a power draw for each period of time over a startup duration and a maximum power draw;
- identify a plurality of lower priority controllable devices from the plurality of controllable devices that have a combined power draw that is greater than or equal to the maximum power draw of the compressor, wherein each of the plurality of lower priority controllable devices includes a device selected from the group consisting of a motor, fan, valve, vessel, evaporator, pump, compressor, door, lighting, and defrost equipment;
- and
- turn down the power to the plurality of lower priority controllable devices by a total amount equal to the power draw profile of the compressor at a given time.
