An image forming apparatus comprising:

• a fixing device including:
• a fixing belt assembly including a heater, a fixing belt heated by the heater, a heater temperature sensor configured to detect a temperature of the heater, and a belt temperature sensor configured to detect a temperature of the fixing belt;
• and
• a pressure roller that presses against the fixing belt to form a nip;
• a drive current sensor configured to detect a drive current of a driver that drives the pressure roller;
• a life information acquisition portion configured to acquire life information of the fixing belt assembly of the fixing device;
• and
• a controller configured to:
• select a first failure prediction processing mode or a second failure prediction processing mode for predicting a failure of the fixing device based on the detection result of the drive current sensor;
• and
• select and execute a driving method for the fixing device based on the detection results of the heater temperature sensor and the belt temperature sensor and the acquisition result of the life information acquisition portion in each of the first failure prediction processing mode and the second failure prediction processing mode.
