Abstract
LED retrofitting system for retrofitting High Intensity Discharge Lighting (HID) fixtures with Light Emitting Diode (LED) arrays and the method for retrofitting.
Claims20
A light emitting diode (LED) assembly for retrofitting a lamp housing of the type including a removable lid having a window opening bounded by a window frame, the LED assembly comprising;
- a support layer having an upwardly facing surface and a downwardly facing surface defining a heat sink plane spanning the window opening and connected to the window frame;
- and
- a first circuit board having a first perimeter, a bottom surface to which a plurality of LEDs are mounted, and a top surface directly bearing against the downwardly facing surface of the support layer;
- wherein the support layer includes a heat sink region extending outwardly beyond the first perimeter configured to draw thermal energy laterally away from the LEDs toward the window frame.

A light emitting diode (LED) assembly for retrofitting a lamp housing of the type including a removable lid having a window opening bounded by a window frame, the LED assembly comprising:
- a support layer having an upwardly facing surface and a downwardly facing surface defining a heat sink plane spanning the window opening and connected to the window frame;
- an offset mount connected to the upwardly facing surface of the support layer, the offset mount including a local heat sink surface spaced apart from the support layer;
- and
- a power converter mounted to the local heat sink surface, the power converter including a conductor extending through the support layer and connected to the circuit board.
