Abstract
A computer-implemented method for managing enterprise transactions includes creating an overlay to a physical communications network, adding one or more nodes to the overlay, designating one or more nodes of the overlay as super nodes, generating a distributed ledger to store the transactions, and replicating the distributed ledger to all nodes of the overlay. Generating the distributed ledger includes receiving, at the super nodes, transactions from the one or more nodes, assigning, by the super nodes, the transactions to a variable size block, validating, by the super nodes, the variable size block, and linking the validated variable size block to the distributed ledger.
Claims19
A permissioning system for efficient and secure data transmittal, comprising:
- one or more first nodes, each of the first nodes, comprising:
- a first data store, the first data store storing a distributed ledger having a blockchain architecture, and
- an application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) programmed to generate a network overlay to an existing physical network, the physical network coupling together the one or more first nodes;
- and
- a plurality of second nodes, one or more of the second nodes, comprising:
- a processor, and
- a second data store capable of storing the distributed ledger,
- the second data store comprising a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium having stored therein that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to:
- attempt to access the physical network, wherein the processor:
- activates a look up service that enables the processor to discover one or more of the second nodes and one or more of the first nodes,
- activates a link sensor that monitors bandwidth in the physical network from the discovered second nodes and from the discovered first nodes,
- transmits data at least on a link having a highest monitored bandwidth, the transmitted data including a status of the transmitting node as a known, trusted node, and an unknown node, and
- for a known, trusted node, receive a local copy of the distributed ledger over the highest monitored bandwidth link, wherein a designated first node receives transactions from one or more of other first nodes and one or more of the second nodes, and the designated first node assigns the transactions to a block of the distributed ledger and wherein:
- selected ones of the first nodes execute a block validity voting process, comprising:
- accumulating block valid votes and block invalid votes from the selected ones of the first nodes, and
- designating the block valid when at least a majority of votes in the block validity voting process are block valid votes;
- the designated first node links the validated block to the distributed ledger;
- and
- the designated first node transmits the distributed ledger to all nodes of the network overlay for replication.
A method for controlling data transmission in a bandwidth-limited environment, the environment comprising a physical data network comprising one or more first nodes and one or more second nodes, the method, comprising:
- at one of the first nodes, a processor storing a distributed ledger having a blockchain architecture and generating a multicast overlay to the physical data network, the overlay coupling together the one or more first nodes;
- and
- at one or more of a plurality of second nodes, attempting to access the physical data network, comprising a processor:
- activating a look up service that enables the processor to discover one or more of the second nodes and one or more of the first nodes,
- activating a link sensor that monitors bandwidth in the network from the discovered second nodes and from the discovered first nodes,
- transmitting data at least on a link having a highest monitored bandwidth, the transmitted data including a status of a node transmitting the data as one of a known, trusted node, and an unknown node, and
- for the known, trusted node, receiving a local copy of the distributed ledger over the highest monitored bandwidth link, wherein a designated first node receives transactions from one or more of other first nodes and one or more of the second nodes, and the designated first node assigns the transactions to a block of the distributed ledger, and wherein selected ones of the first nodes execute a block validity voting process, comprising:
- accumulating block valid votes and block invalid votes from the selected ones of the first nodes, and
- designating the block valid when at least a majority of votes in the block validity voting process are block valid votes;
- the designated first node links the validated block to the distributed ledger;
- and
- the designated first node transmits the distributed ledger to all nodes of the network overlay for replication.
A computer-implemented method for storing and managing enterprise data in a bandwidth-limited environment, comprising:
- receiving by a processor at a designated first node, transactions from one of other first nodes and second nodes in a communications network;
- through an application layer of the communications network:
- verifying one or more transactions,
- aggregating the verified transactions in a block,
- validating the block by executing a consensus algorithm by a plurality of trusted nodes in the communications network, wherein trusted nodes execute a block validity voting process, comprising:
- accumulating block valid votes and block invalid votes from the trusted nodes, and
- designating the block valid when at least a majority of votes in the block validity voting process are block valid votes;
- adding the validated block to a distributed ledger, the distributed ledger comprising a blockchain architecture;
- linking the validated block to a predecessor block in the distributed ledger, comprising verifying a hash of the validated block is lower than a hash of a top block in the distributed ledger;
- and
- replicating the distributed ledger across the communications network, comprising the designated first node multicasting the validated block to other nodes in the communications network.
