Virtual weigh station

A vehicle having a system, the system comprising:

• at least one vehicle onboard sensor configured to sense or determine at least a weight of the vehicle having a payload;
• at least one wireless pass-stop device installed or present onboard the vehicle;
• the at least one vehicle onboard sensor being configured to communicate at least the weight of the vehicle with a web service associated with a weigh station on an upcoming roadway by way of the at least one wireless pass-stop device;
• and
• the web service associated with the weigh station being configured to correlate or compare the weight of the vehicle with stored data representative of at least one of a road condition, a capacity, a facility, and established safety data associated with the upcoming roadway, and to send a signal to the vehicle onboard sensor upon determining that there is at least one incompatibility or conflict between the weight of the vehicle and the road condition, capacity, facility, or established safety data associated with the upcoming roadway requiring corrective action;
• and
• the at least one wireless pass-stop device being configured to notify the vehicle to enter or pass by the weigh station based on the corrective action.

A method of alerting a vehicle driver of a potential safety issue with travelling on an upcoming roadway based on conditions or characteristics of the vehicle or its driver, in view of stored data representative of conditions or characteristics associated with the upcoming roadway, comprising the steps of:

• providing at least one wireless communication device on the vehicle;
• sensing or determining at least one condition or characteristic of the vehicle or its driver using at least one device that is installed or present onboard the vehicle and transmitting data representative of the at least one condition or characteristic of the vehicle or its driver to the at least one wireless communication device installed or present on the vehicle;
• providing at least one remote site or web service;
• communicating the data representative of the at least one condition or characteristic of the vehicle or its driver from the at least one wireless communication device installed or present onboard the vehicle to the at least one remote site or web service;
• providing data representative of safety conditions associated with the upcoming roadway;
• the remote site or web service correlating or comparing the data representative of at least one condition or characteristic of the vehicle or its driver with the stored data representative of safety data representative of safety conditions associated with the upcoming roadway to determine if the data representative of the at least one condition or characteristic of the vehicle or its driver satisfies predetermined safety criteria associated with comparing the safety data representative of safety conditions associated with the upcoming roadway with the data representative of at least one condition or characteristic of the vehicle or its driver;
• and
• upon determining that the data representative of the at least one condition or characteristic of the vehicle or its driver fails to satisfy the predetermined safety criteria, sending a signal to the vehicle indicating a potential safety condition with proceeding to travel on the upcoming roadway.
