Command-based processing of real-time virtualized jobs

A method comprising:

• executing, by a processing device, an application using a nested guest operating system in a nested virtual machine, wherein the application includes a code section to be executed using a real-time prioritized resource as compared to at least one other code section in the application;
• providing, by the processing device, a virtual central processing unit (VCPU) to the application, the VCPU including a virtual machine function to execute the code section with the real-time prioritized resource;
• detecting, by the processing device, a command to the virtual machine function in the VCPU from the application using the nested guest operating system, wherein the command is invoked to cause the processing device to execute the code section with the real-time prioritized resource;
• and
• in response to the command, executing, by the processing device, the code section in a real-time thread to provide the real-time prioritized resource.

A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising program code that is executable by a processing device for causing the processing device to:

• execute an application using a nested guest operating system in a nested virtual machine, wherein the application includes a code section to be executed using a real-time prioritized resource as compared to at least one other code section in the application;
• provide a virtual central processing unit (VCPU) to the application, the VCPU including a virtual machine function to execute the code section with the real-time prioritized resource;
• detect a command to the virtual machine function in the VCPU from the application using the nested guest operating system, wherein the command is invokable to cause the processing device to execute the code section with the real-time prioritized resource;
• and
• in response to the command, execute the code section in a real-time thread to provide the real-time prioritized resource.
