Multiview display and method with offset rows of multibeam emitters and multiview pixels

A multiview display comprising:

• a light guide configured to guide light;
• an array of multibeam elements arranged in rows and configured to scatter out a portion of the guided light as directional emitted light associated with multiview pixels of the multiview display;
• and
• an array of light valves configured to modulate the directional emitted light to provide a multiview image, different sets of light valves of the light valve array corresponding to different ones of the multiview pixels of the multiview display,
• wherein a first row of multibeam elements is offset with respect to a second row of the multibeam elements by an integer multiple of a distance between repeating polarities of a polarity inversion protocol of the light valve array.

A method of multiview display operation, the method comprising:

• emitting directional light beams using an array of multibeam emitters of a multibeam backlight, multibeam emitters of the multibeam emitter array being arranged in offset rows;
• and
• modulating the directional light beams using an array of light valves to display a multiview image, sets of light valves of the light valve array corresponding to multiview pixels of the multiview display and the light valve array being driven according to a polarity inversion protocol,
• wherein an offset distance between offset rows being an integer multiple of a distance between repeating polarities of the polarity inversion protocol along an offset row.
