Methods, compositions and kits are disclosed directed at levetiracetam derivatives, immunogens, signal generating moieties, antibodies that bind levetiracetam and immunoassays for detection of levetiracetam.

A compound of the formula:
- wherein
- R1 is selected from the group consisting of —(CH2)n—NH—C(O)—(CH2)n—C(O)—Z and —(CH2)n—NH—C(O)—(CH2)n—S—(CH2)n—C(O)—Z, wherein each n is an integer from 1 to 10;
- and
- Z is selected from the group consisting of an immunogenic carrier and a fluorophore, and
- acid salts thereof.
