Abstract
A cartridge for coupling to a conducted electrical weapon to launch electrodes toward a target to provide a current through the target to impede locomotion of the target. The cartridge includes a cover that covers a forward portion of the cartridge. The cover may be over molded on the forward portion of the cartridge. The cover includes a frangible portion. The frangible portion may surround the perimeter of a door or be positioned between flaps. The frangible portion may be broken to separate the door from the cover or to disengage the flaps so they can move. The electrode may launch through a door opening or between the flaps to travel toward the target.
Claims20
A cartridge for a conducted electrical weapon, the cartridge comprising:
- a body having a first end and a second end, the first end forming an inner perimeter defining an opening to a cavity;
- a projectile configured to be propelled from the body via the opening of the cavity;
- and
- a cover coupled to the first end of the body covering the cavity, the cover comprising:
- a door defining an inner portion of the cover;
- and
- a frangible portion comprising a groove in a surface of the cover surrounding and defining the door, wherein the frangible portion is configured to break to decouple the door from the inner portion of the cover and permit the projectile to be propelled through the opening of the cavity.
A cartridge for coupling to a conducted electrical weapon, the cartridge comprising:
- a body having a forward portion and an aft portion;
- a projectile configured to be launched from the forward portion of the body;
- and
- a cover coupled to the forward portion of the body, the cover comprising:
- an outer edge;
- a frangible portion radially inward from the outer edge;
- and
- a door radially inward from the frangible portion, wherein the frangible portion separates the door from the outer edge, and wherein the frangible portion is configured to rupture responsive to a launch of the projectile to decouple the door from the outer edge of the cover.
A cartridge for coupling to a conducted electrical weapon, the cartridge comprising:
- a body having a first end and a second end, the first end forming an inner perimeter defining an opening to a cavity;
- a projectile configured to be launched from the body via the opening of the cavity;
- and
- a cover coupled to the first end of the body covering the opening of the cavity, wherein the cover comprises a frangible portion, wherein the frangible portion is configured to break responsive to a launch of the projectile to create a plurality of flaps in the cover, and wherein an area of an exit formed by the plurality of flaps is less than a cross-sectional area of the opening in the cavity.
