Abstract
Methods and systems for managing processing resources of an online game include executing the online game for one or more users. Each user is provided access to virtual locations in a gaming world of the online game. A compute is assigned for processing gaming interactivity of the one or more users in the gaming world. A number of users accessing a region within a virtual location are determined. When the number of users exceeds a predefined limit for the compute assigned to the users in the region, the region is divided into a plurality of sub-regions and additional compute is assigned for the region so that the compute and the additional compute can process gaming interactivity for the users in each of the sub-regions defined in the gaming world.
Claims13
A method, comprising:
- executing an online game in response to a plurality of users accessing the online game, the plurality of users provided access to virtual locations of a gaming world of the online game;
- monitoring movement of a user within the gaming world to identify a virtual location of the gaming world accessed by the user;
- determining if any compute resources have been assigned to the virtual location accessed by the user;
- and
- dynamically assigning one or more compute resources to the virtual location for processing gaming interactivity of the user, upon determining no compute resources have been assigned to the virtual location, the one or more compute resources assigned to the virtual location are identified to handle processing load required for processing the gaming interactivity.
A distributed game engine executing on a game cloud system for managing compute resources for an online game that presents a gaming world, comprising:
- game logic configured to generate game data using gaming interactivities received from a user during game play of the online game;
- a user location tracker configured to monitor movement of the user in the online game to identify a virtual location within the gaming world accessed by the user;
- and
- a compute allocator configured to determine if any compute resources have been assigned to the virtual location accessed by the user and to dynamically assign one or more compute resources to the virtual location, when no compute resources were assigned to the virtual location, the one or more compute resources identified to handle processing load required for processing the gaming interactivity generated in the virtual location.
