Abstract
A medical device comprises a flexible member that can be adhesively attached to a housing of the medical device, allowing implantation of the medical device into a body through an incision of reduced size. The flexible member can be attached to the housing either before or after implantation into the body. The flexible member comprises suture locations, including a permeable membrane or a suture hole, for suturing the medical device to tissue of the body. The suture holes can be filled with a substance penetrable by a suture needle, to minimize tissue ingrowth before or after suturing.
Claims21
A device comprising:
- a housing comprising a needle entry site and a housing bottom surface;
- a needle-penetrable member comprising a first region of thickness and a second region of thickness;
- wherein the first region of thickness and the second region of thickness are different thicknesses;
- and wherein at least a portion of the needle-penetrable member is configured to be sutured to a subcutaneous tissue;
- wherein both the first region of thickness and the second region of thickness of the needle-penetrable member extend below the housing bottom surface;
- wherein the housing bottom surface directly contacts the needle-penetrable member;
- and wherein the needle-penetrable member does not extend over the needle entry site.
A device comprising:
- a housing comprising a bottom surface, and an entry site;
- a needle-penetrable member comprising a region of variable thickness extending along the bottom surface of the housing, wherein the needle-penetrable member does not contact the entry site and wherein at least a portion of the needle-penetrable member is configured to be sutured to a subcutaneous tissue.
A device comprising:
- a housing comprising a needle entry site, and a surface opposite the needle entry site;
- and
- a needle-penetrable member configured to be sutured to a subcutaneous tissue;
- and
- wherein the needle-penetrable member varies in thickness along the surface opposite the needle entry site, and the needle-penetrable member traverses the surface opposite the needle entry site.
An implantable access device, comprising:
- a first housing surface defining an entry site configured to be accessed by a needle, and a bottom housing surface;
- a needle-penetrable member defining a needle-penetrable surface configured to be sutured to a subcutaneous tissue and comprising a first region of thickness and a second region of thickness, wherein the thickness of the first region is different than the thickness of the second region;
- wherein the needle-penetrable member does not extend over the entry site, and both the first region of thickness and the second region of thickness contact and span the bottom housing surface;
- and
- wherein the implantable access device is arranged to be subcutaneously positioned in a body of a patient such that the first housing surface is disposed adjacent to a cutaneous layer of the body and the needle-penetrable surface is disposed adjacent to the subcutaneous tissue in the body.
