Abstract
A mechanical planer board that is arranged for use on both the right and left sides of a towing boat and is further adapted to move from a boat side position to a boat rear position upon a fish strike. The planer board includes a body having a housing, a float, an internal assembly, and at least one line clip having a tow arm. The tow arm maintains the line clip in towing configuration until a fish strike pulls a trigger pin to release the tow arm thereby allowing it to swing and lock in a forward position. The board may further include an indicator device to alert the fisher of board location.
Claims20
A fishing planer board including:
- a housing comprising an assembly, wherein the housing is symmetrically shaped;
- and
- a float member positioned symmetrically with respect to the housing;
- wherein the assembly comprises:
- a trigger pin having a trigger pin first end and a trigger pin second end, the trigger pin having a longitudinal axis arranged symmetrically with respect to the housing and configured to slide back-and-forth, with respect to the housing, along the longitudinal axis;
- a first line clip coupled to a pivot rod configured to rotate about a pivot rod axis orthogonal to the longitudinal axis of the trigger pin;
- a second line clip coupled to the trigger pin second end and configured to slide back-and-forth, together with the trigger pin, along the longitudinal axis of the trigger pin;
- and
- a tow arm arranged to couple the first line clip to the pivot rod, the tow arm being further arranged for positioning on either side of the fishing planer board about the pivot rod axis.
A fishing planer board comprising:
- a fishing planer board assembly comprising:
- a trigger pin having a longitudinal axis and a trigger pin first end and a trigger pin second end opposite the trigger pin first end, wherein the trigger pin is configured to reciprocate along the longitudinal axis;
- a tow line clip coupled to a pivot rod, the pivot rod configured to position the tow line clip between a first tow line clip position and a second tow line clip position;
- a strike line clip coupled to the trigger pin second end and configured to pull the trigger pin in a strike direction along the longitudinal axis in response to an external force;
- and
- a tow arm coupled to the tow line clip;
- wherein the pivot rod is coupled to the tow arm and has a rotation axis, the pivot rod configured to position the tow arm on either side of the fishing planer board assembly about the rotation axis.
A fishing planer board including:
- a symmetrically-shaped housing having a centerline, the housing including an assembly arranged on the centerline;
- a float member arranged on the centerline;
- wherein the assembly comprises:
- a trigger pin having a trigger pin first end and a trigger pin second end, the trigger pin having a longitudinal axis arranged on the centerline and configured to reciprocate along the longitudinal axis;
- a tow arm pivot rod configured to rotate about a pivot rod axis;
- a pair of line clips;
- a tow arm arranged to couple one line clip of the pair of line clips to the tow arm pivot rod, the tow arm being further arranged for positioning on either side of the fishing planer board about the pivot rod axis;
- and
- wherein another line clip of the pair of line clips is coupled to the trigger pin second end and is configured to reciprocate, together with the trigger pin, along the longitudinal axis of the trigger pin.
