Abstract
The present invention provides aryl isonitrile compounds that have antibacterial properties. More specifically, the aryl isonitrile compounds of the present invention are potent inhibitors of drug resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus.

An isonitrile compound having the structure:
- wherein R is a hydrogen, methyl, ethyl, n-propyl, n-butyl or phenyl;
- n is an integer from 0 to 4;
- X is hydrogen, Me, —F, —CF3, —OMe, n-butyl, or —NO2;
- W, Y and Z are each independently —CH—;
- and
- pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof.
