Abstract
A plural preform assembly having nested preforms with an inner preform and an outer preform. The preforms are sealably joined together, defining a volume between the preforms. Propellant is disposed in the volume between the preforms. The preforms are later blow molded to provide a bag in bottle, bottle in bottle or similar container. The propellant charge is already present when blow molded, preventing the need for a later propellant filling step.
Claims20
A plural preform assembly for a container, the plural preform assembly having a longitudinal axis defining a longitudinal direction, the plural preform assembly comprising:
- an outer preform comprising an outer preform open end and an outer preform closed end longitudinally opposed thereto, an outer preform sidewall joining the outer preform open end and the outer container closed end, an outer preform inner surface, and an outer preform outer surface;
- a first inner preform disposed in the outer preform, the first inner preform comprising a first inner preform open end and a first inner preform closed end longitudinally opposed thereto, a first inner preform sidewall joining the first inner preform open end and the first inner preform closed end, a first inner preform inner surface, and a first inner preform outer surface;
- a second inner preform disposed in the outer preform, the second inner preform comprising a second inner preform open end and a second inner preform closed end longitudinally opposed thereto, a second inner preform sidewall joining the second inner preform open end and the second inner preform closed end, a second inner preform inner surface, and a second inner preform outer surface;
- and
- a propellant disposed intermediate the first inner preform and the outer preform,
- wherein the first inner preform and the second inner preform are sealably joined to the outer preform at the open ends.
A plural preform assembly for an aerosol container, the plural preform assembly having a longitudinal axis defining a longitudinal direction, the plural preform assembly comprising:
- an outer preform comprising an outer preform neck with an open end and an outer preform closed end longitudinally opposed thereto, an outer preform sidewall joining the outer preform open end and the outer preform closed end, an outer preform inner surface, and an outer preform outer surface;
- a first inner preform disposed in the outer container, the first inner preform comprising a first inner preform neck with a first inner preform open end and a first inner preform closed end longitudinally opposed thereto, a first inner preform sidewall joining the first inner preform open end and the first inner preform closed end, a first inner preform inner surface, and a first inner preform outer surface;
- and
- a second inner preform disposed in the outer container, the second inner preform comprising a second inner preform neck with a second inner preform open end and a second inner preform closed end longitudinally opposed thereto, a second inner preform sidewall joining the second inner preform open end and the second inner preform closed end, a second inner preform inner surface, and a second inner preform outer surface,
- wherein the first inner preform and the outer preform are sealably joined at the respective necks,
- wherein the second inner preform and the outer preform are sealably joined at the respective necks,
- wherein a volume is defined between the first and second inner preforms and the outer preform, and
- wherein propellant is disposed in the volume.
A method of making a plural preform assembly, the method comprising:
- providing a plural preform assembly having a longitudinal axis defining a longitudinal direction, the plural preform assembly comprising:
- an outer preform, wherein the outer preform comprising an outer preform open end and an outer preform closed end longitudinally opposed thereto, an outer preform sidewall joining the outer preform open end and the outer preform closed end, an outer preform inner surface, and an outer preform outer surface;
- a first inner preform disposed in the outer preform, wherein the first inner perform comprising a first inner preform open neck and a first inner preform closed end longitudinally opposed thereto, a first inner preform sidewall joining the first inner preform open end and the first inner preform closed end, a first inner preform inner surface, and a first inner preform outer surface;
- and
- a second inner preform disposed in the outer preform, wherein the second inner perform comprising a second inner preform open neck and a second inner preform closed end longitudinally opposed thereto, a second inner preform sidewall joining the second inner preform open end and the second inner preform closed end, a second inner preform inner surface, and a second inner preform outer surface, and
- wherein the first and second inner preforms and the outer preform define a volume therebetween;
- and
- charging the volume with a propellant, wherein the propellant is at a pressure greater than atmospheric pressure;
- and
- sealably joining the first and second inner preforms and the outer preform, wherein the propellant is contained in the volume.
