Abstract
Provided herein are encapsulated liposomes comprising a lipid bilayer, a first polyethylene glycol (PEG) corona, a targeting molecule and a second PEG corona. The second, encapsulating PEG corona can be reversibly linked to the first PEG corona. Also provided are pharmaceutical compositions comprising the encapsulated liposomes and methods of treating a subject with a disease characterized by production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) with the compositions. Also provided are methods of making the encapsulated liposomes disclosed herein.
Claims16
A method of making an encapsulated liposome comprising:
- (a) providing a liposome comprising a lipid bilayer with a first PEG corona, wherein the first PEG corona further comprises a targeting molecule;
- (b) contacting the liposome of step (a) with a linker and PEG molecules, under conditions for reversibly linking a second PEG corona to the first PEG corona;
- and
- (c) forming the encapsulated liposome having the second PEG corona reversibly linked to the first PEG corona, wherein the second PEG corona encapsulates the liposome.
A method of making an encapsulated liposome comprising the steps of:
- (a) providing a liposome comprising a lipid bilayer and a targeting molecule;
- (b) contacting the liposome of step (a) with reversibly linked PEG molecules, under conditions for reversibly linking a first PEG corona to a second PEG corona, wherein the lipid bilayer comprises the first PEG corona;
- and
- (c) forming the encapsulated liposome having the second PEG corona reversibly linked to the first PEG corona, wherein the second PEG corona encapsulates the liposome.
