Abstract
A mixer apparatus for mixing a high-viscosity fluid has a mixer shaft with a plurality of blades affixed thereto, a hydraulic motor drivingly connected to the mixer shaft so as to rotate the mixer shaft, a hydraulic pump connected by a fluid circuit to the hydraulic motor so as to deliver hydraulic fluid under pressure to the hydraulic motor, an electric motor drivingly connected to the hydraulic pump, and a hydraulic fluid reservoir connected to the fluid circuit so as to supply hydraulic fluid to the hydraulic pump. The plurality of blades are pivotally mounted to the mixer shaft.
Claims14
A mixer apparatus for mixing a high viscosity fluid, the mixer apparatus comprising:
- a mixer shaft having a plurality of blades affixed thereto, the plurality of blades comprising:
- a first set of blades;
- and
- a second set of blades positioned at a location on said mixer shaft away from said first set of blades;
- a hydraulic motor drivingly connected to said mixer shaft so as to rotate said mixer shaft, said first set of blades positioned adjacent an end of said mixer shaft opposite said hydraulic motor, said first set of blades and said second set of blades movable from a first position against said mixer shaft to a second position extending outwardly of said mixer shaft when said hydraulic motor rotates said mixer shaft, said hydraulic motor engaging said mixer shaft at or adjacent to an end of said mixer shaft;
- a hydraulic pump connected by a fluid circuit to said hydraulic motor, said hydraulic pump adapted to deliver hydraulic fluid under pressure to said hydraulic motor;
- an electric motor drivingly connected to said hydraulic pump;
- and
- a hydraulic fluid reservoir connected to said fluid circuit so as to supply hydraulic fluid to said hydraulic pump.
A mixing system comprising:
- a container having a high-viscosity fluid therein, said container being a drum having a cover, the cover having a bunghole formed therein, the bunghole having a diameter;
- a mixer shaft extendable downwardly into said container through the bunghole and into the high-viscosity fluid in said container, said mixer shaft having a plurality of blades pivotally affixed thereto, the plurality of blades being movable between a first position residing along said mixer shaft and a second position extending outwardly of said mixer shaft, the plurality of blades and said mixer shaft having a diameter less than a diameter of the bunghole when the plurality of blades are in the first position;
- a hydraulic motor drivingly connected to said mixer shaft so as to rotate said mixer shaft in said container, the plurality of blades being in the second position when said hydraulic motor rotates said mixer shaft;
- a hydraulic pump connected by a fluid circuit to said hydraulic motor, said hydraulic pump adapted to deliver hydraulic fluid under pressure to said hydraulic motor;
- an electric motor drivingly connected to said hydraulic pump;
- and
- a hydraulic fluid reservoir connected to said fluid circuit so as to supply hydraulic fluid to said hydraulic pump.
