Abstract
A portable hydraulic power unit includes a frame, a fluid tank supported by the frame, and a manifold supported by the frame. The fluid tank is configured to store a supply of hydraulic fluid for powering a hydraulically-driven tool. A reciprocating pump is mounted on the exterior of the fluid tank and on the exterior of the manifold. The reciprocating pump is secured to the fluid tank and the manifold with fasteners extending through a cylinder body of the reciprocating pump.
Claims22
A hydraulic power unit comprising:
- a frame;
- a fluid tank supported by the frame and having a top side, a bottom side, and a sidewall extending between the top side and the bottom side, the fluid tank configured to store a supply of hydraulic fluid;
- a manifold disposed above the top side of the fluid tank;
- and
- a first reciprocating pump fixed to a tank exterior side of the fluid tank and a manifold exterior side of the manifold, the first reciprocating pump configured to draw the hydraulic fluid from the fluid tank and pump a first flow of hydraulic fluid to the manifold;
- wherein the first reciprocating pump is fixed to the tank exterior side at a first location and is fixed to the manifold exterior side at a second location;
- wherein a first fluid connection is formed between the first reciprocating pump and the fluid tank at the first location and a second fluid connection is formed between the first reciprocating pump and the manifold at the second location;
- and
- wherein the tank exterior side is the sidewall of the fluid tank.
A hydraulic power unit comprising:
- a frame;
- a fluid tank supported by the frame, the fluid tank configured to store a supply of hydraulic fluid;
- a manifold mounted on and supported by the frame;
- and
- a first reciprocating pump fixed to a tank exterior side of the fluid tank and a manifold exterior side of the manifold, the first reciprocating pump configured to draw the hydraulic fluid from the fluid tank and pump a first flow of hydraulic fluid to the manifold, wherein the first reciprocating pump comprises:
- a first cylinder body fixed to the tank exterior side at a first location and the manifold exterior side at a second location, the cylinder body comprising:
- an upper mounting portion having a flat upper face and a fluid outlet through the flat upper face, wherein the flat upper face abuts a first surface on the manifold exterior side and an upper seal is disposed between the flat upper face and the manifold exterior side;
- and
- a lower mounting portion having a flat lower face and a fluid inlet through the flat lower face, wherein the flat lower face abuts a second surface on the tank exterior side and a lower seal is disposed between the flat lower face and the tank exterior side;
- and
- a first piston extending at least partially out of the first cylinder body, wherein a portion of the first piston extending out of the first cylinder body is connected to a drive to be reciprocated along a first axis of the first reciprocating pump by the drive;
- wherein a first fluid connection is formed between the first reciprocating pump and the fluid tank at the first location and a second fluid connection is formed between the first reciprocating pump and the manifold at the second location.
A hydraulic power unit for powering a hydraulic tool with hydraulic fluid, the hydraulic power unit comprising:
- a frame;
- a motor supported by the frame;
- a drive supported by the frame and connected to the motor to receive a rotational output from the motor, the drive configured to convert the rotational output to a linear reciprocating motion;
- a fluid tank supported by the frame and having a top side, a bottom side, and a sidewall extending between the top side and the bottom side, the fluid tank configured to store a supply of hydraulic fluid;
- a manifold supported by the frame;
- and
- a first reciprocating pump fixed to a tank exterior side of the fluid tank and a manifold exterior side of the manifold, wherein the tank exterior side is the sidewall, wherein the first reciprocating pump is connected to the drive to be reciprocated by the linear reciprocating motion output by the drive, and wherein the first reciprocating pump is configured to draw the hydraulic fluid from the fluid tank and pump a first flow of hydraulic fluid to the manifold by a first piston of the first reciprocating pump, the first piston including a first check valve mounted to the first piston and configured to reciprocate with the first piston;
- an outlet configured to output a flow of hydraulic fluid from the first reciprocating pump to the hydraulic tool and an inlet configured to receive a return of the flow of hydraulic fluid from the hydraulic tool returning to the fluid tank.
A method of mounting a pump on a hydraulic power unit, the pump having a cylinder body with a fluid outlet through an upper mounting portion of the cylinder body, a fluid inlet through a lower mounting portion of the cylinder body, and a piston extending at least partially out of the cylinder body, the hydraulic power unit having a fluid tank for holding hydraulic fluid, a supply port in fluid communication with the fluid tank and fixed to the fluid tank, a manifold fixed to the fluid tank, a receiving port in fluid communication with the manifold and fixed to the manifold, and a drive, the method comprising:
- aligning each of the fluid inlet with the supply port, the fluid outlet with the receiving port, and the piston with the drive;
- shifting the pump laterally towards the manifold and the fluid tank such that the lower mounting portion abuts a first surface on a tank exterior side of the fluid tank thereby forming a first fluid connection between the fluid inlet and the supply port, and such that the upper mounting portion abuts a second surface on a manifold exterior side of the manifold thereby forming a second fluid connection between the fluid outlet and the receiving port, and such that a head of the piston is disposed in a slot of a collar of the drive thereby forming a reciprocating mechanical connection between the piston and the drive;
- and
- securing the cylinder body to the fluid tank and the manifold while maintaining the first fluid connection, the second fluid connection, and the reciprocating mechanical connection, and while maintaining the alignment of the fluid inlet with the supply port, the fluid outlet with the receiving port, and the piston with the drive.
