Abstract
A network architecture and methods of managing packet data unit (PDU) sessions in a network are provided. The methods include PDU session establishment procedures, PDU session modification procedures, PDU session state transfer procedures, PDU session release procedures, and user equipment (UE) handover procedures.
Claims30
A method of releasing a N2 connection associated with a user equipment (UE), the method comprising:
- receiving, by an access and mobility management function (AMF) from an access network (AN), a message including packet data unit (PDU) session identifiers (IDs) associated with PDU sessions of the UE;
- sending, by the AMF to a session management function (SMF), a PDU session deactivation request to deactivate a PDU session, the PDU session deactivation request including an identifier indicating the PDU session;
- receiving, by the AMF from the SMF, a PDU session deactivation response associated with the PDU session deactivation request;
- indicating, by the AMF, to the AN to release a UE context of the UE after receiving the PDU session deactivation response, wherein the UE context includes UE related information associated with the N2 connection;
- receiving, by the AMF from the AN, a UE context release confirmation so that a release of the N2 connection associated with the UE is confirmed.
An apparatus comprising:
- at least one processor;
- and
- a non-transitory computer readable storage medium including instructions configured to control the at least one processor to implement steps of:
- receiving, from an access network (AN), a message including packet data unit (PDU) session identifiers (IDs) associated with PDU sessions of a user equipment (UE);
- sending, to a session management function (SMF), a PDU session deactivation request to deactivate a PDU session, the PDU session deactivation request including an identifier indicating the PDU session;
- receiving, from the SMF, a PDU session deactivation response associated with the PDU session deactivation request;
- indicating to the AN to release a UE context of the UE after receiving the PDU session deactivation response, wherein the UE context includes UE related information associated with the N2 connection;
- receiving, from the AN, a UE context release confirmation so that a release of a N2 connection associated with the UE is confirmed.
An (AN) apparatus comprising:
- at least one processor;
- and
- a non-transitory computer readable storage medium including instructions configured to control the at least one processor to implement steps of:
- sending, to an access and mobility management function (AMF), a message including packet data unit (PDU) session identifiers (IDs) associated with PDU sessions of a user equipment (UE), the message is to trigger a deactivation of the PDU sessions;
- in response of the message, receiving, from the AMF, an indication indicating to release a UE context of the UE, wherein the UE context includes UE related information associated with a N2 connection;
- releasing the UE context of the UE;
- and
- sending, to the AMF, a UE context release confirmation.
A method performed by an access network (AN) node, the method comprising:
- sending, to an access and mobility management function (AMF), a message including packet data unit (PDU) session identifiers (IDs) associated with PDU sessions of a user equipment (UE), the message being to trigger a deactivation of the PDU sessions;
- receiving, from the AMF, an indication to release a UE context of the UE, the indication being in response to the message, wherein the UE context includes UE related information associated with a N2 connection;
- releasing the UE context of the UE;
- and
- sending, to the AMF, a UE context release confirmation.
A non-transitory computer readable storage medium comprising instructions configured to control at least one processor to implement steps of:
- receiving, from an access network (AN), a message including packet data unit (PDU) session identifiers (IDs) associated with PDU sessions of a user equipment (UE);
- sending, to a session management function (SMF), a PDU session deactivation request to deactivate a PDU session, the PDU session deactivation request including an identifier indicating the PDU session;
- receiving, from the SMF, a PDU session deactivation response associated with the PDU session deactivation request;
- indicating, to the AN, to release a UE context of the UE after receiving the PDU session deactivation response, wherein the UE context includes UE related information associated with the N2 connection;
- receiving, from the AN, a UE context release confirmation so that a release of a N2 connection associated with the UE is confirmed.
A non-transitory computer readable storage medium comprising instructions configured to control at least one processor to implement steps of:
- sending, to an access and mobility management function (AMF), a message including packet data unit (PDU) session identifiers (IDs) associated with PDU sessions of a user equipment (UE), the message being to trigger a deactivation of the PDU sessions;
- receiving, from the AMF, an indication to release a UE context of the UE, the indication being in response to the message, wherein the UE context includes UE related information associated with a N2 connection;
- releasing the UE context of the UE;
- and
- sending, to the AMF, a UE context release confirmation.
