Abstract
Systems and methods for variable scan interval using context are described. In some embodiments, an Information Handling System (IHS) may include a processor and a memory coupled to the processor, the memory having program instructions stored thereon that, upon execution, cause the IHS to: scan for wireless networks at a scan interval; and adjust the scan interval based upon context.
Claims15
An Information Handling System (IHS), comprising:
- a processor;
- and
- a memory coupled to the processor, the memory having program instructions stored thereon that, upon execution, cause the IHS to:scan for wireless networks at a scan interval;
- and
- adjust the scan interval based upon context, wherein the context comprises motion information indicative of IHS movement, and wherein to adjust the scan interval, the program instructions, upon execution, further cause the IHS to:
- increase the scan interval exponentially while a measure of IHS movement is above a threshold value or decrease the scan interval exponentially while a measure of the IHS movement is below the threshold value.
A memory device having program instructions stored thereon that, upon execution by an Information Handling System (IHS), cause the IHS to:
- scan for wireless networks at a scan interval;
- and adjust the scan interval based upon context, wherein the context comprises motion information indicative of IHS movement, and wherein to adjust the scan interval, the program instructions, upon execution, further cause the IHS to:
- increase the scan interval exponentially while a measure of IHS movement is above a threshold value or decrease the scan interval exponentially while a measure of the IHS movement is below the threshold value.
A method, comprising:
- scanning for wireless networks at a scan interval;
- and
- adjusting the scan interval based upon context, wherein the context comprises motion information indicative of Information Handling System (IHS) movement, and wherein adjusting the scan interval further comprises increasing the scan interval exponentially while a measure of IHS movement is above a threshold value or decreasing the scan interval exponentially while a measure of the IHS movement is below the threshold value.
