MIC recovery of BR/EDR links

An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:

• means for receiving a first packet data unit (PDU) comprising at least one of a sequence number (SEQN) bit or a packet counter value;
• means for determining whether a value of the SEQN bit of the received first PDU is an expected SEQN or an unexpected SEQN;
• means for calculating, based on the packet counter value, a message integrity check (MIC) of the received first PDU;
• means for determining, based on the determination that the value of the SEQN bit is the unexpected SEQN, whether the received first PDU is a re-transmission of a previous PDU or the received first PDU comprising errors;
• means for transmitting an acknowledgement (ACK) or a negative acknowledgment (NACK) in response to the determination of whether the first PDU is the re-transmission of the previous PDU or the first PDU comprising errors;
• and
• wherein the means for determining whether the received first PDU is the re-transmission of the previous PDU is configured to:
• determine whether at least undencrypted MIC octets of the first PDU match undencrypted MIC octets of the previous received PDU.

An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:

• a memory;
• and
• at least one processor coupled to the memory and configured to:
• receive a first packet data unit (PDU) comprising at least one of a sequence number (SEQN) bit or a packet counter value;
• determine whether a value of the SEQN bit of the received first PDU is an expected SEQN or an unexpected SEQN;
• calculate, based on the packet counter value, a message integrity check (MIC) of the received first PDU;
• determine, based on the determination that the value of the SEQN bit is the unexpected SEQN, whether the received first PDU is a re-transmission of a previous PDU or the received first PDU comprising errors;
• transmit an acknowledgement (ACK) or a negative acknowledgment (NACK) in response to the determination of whether the first PDU is the re-transmission of the previous PDU or the first PDU comprising errors;
• and
• wherein to determine whether the received first PDU is the re-transmission of the previous PDU, the at least one processor further configured to:
• determine whether at least undencrypted MIC octets of the first PDU match undencrypted MIC octets of the previous received PDU.

A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing computer executable code, the code when executed by a processor cause the processor to:

• receive a first packet data unit (PDU) comprising at least one of a sequence number (SEQN) bit or a packet counter value;
• determine whether a value of the SEQN bit of the received first PDU is an expected SEQN or an unexpected SEQN;
• calculate, based on the packet counter value, a message integrity check (MIC) of the received first PDU;
• determine, based on the determination that the value of the SEQN bit is the unexpected SEQN, whether the received first PDU is a re-transmission of a previous PDU or the received first PDU comprising errors;
• transmit an acknowledgement (ACK) or a negative acknowledgment (NACK) in response to the determination of whether the first PDU is the re-transmission of the previous PDU or the first PDU comprising errors;
• and
• wherein determining whether the received first PDU is the re-transmission of the previous PDU comprises:
• determining whether at least undencrypted MIC octets of the first PDU match undencrypted MIC octets of the previous received PDU.
