A method of covering a portion of a fastener, protruding from a surface, with a cap that comprises a wall, a base, an interior, at least partially delimited by the wall and the base, a seal, coupled to the base, and pawls, located in the interior of the cap, the fastener comprising a spacer, positioned between a tooth, extending from the portion of the fastener, and the surface, so that a space, sized to enable engagement of the pawls with the tooth, is defined between the tooth and the surface, the method comprising
- covering the portion of the fastener with the cap so that the cap is biased against the surface and the pawls positively engage the tooth such that the pawls are loaded in tension against the tooth by compressing the seal between the surface and the base of the cap.
