Abstract
Corrosion inhibitors and methods for reducing or inhibiting corrosion of metals in aqueous systems are provided. Corrosion inhibitor compositions may include tetracarboxylic acids, such as butane tetracarboxylic acid. The compositions may include other components, such as zinc, molybdate, silicate, cerium, among others. The compositions may also include polymers or oligomers. The corrosion inhibitor compositions produced synergistic results and unexpectedly low corrosion rates.
Claims18
A corrosion inhibitor composition, comprising:
- a tetracarboxylic acid compound of formula (I)
- where R1, R3, R4, and R5 are each independently selected from a group consisting of C1-C6 alkylene, C1-C6 alkyl, C4 to C6 aryl, C1 to C10 alkoxy, cumene, mesitylene, toluene, and xylene;
- R2 is CH or CHR′, where R′ is a selected from a group consisting of C1-C6 alkylene, C1-C6 alkyl, C4 to C6 aryl, C1 to C10 alkoxy, cumene, mesitylene, toluene, and xylene;
- provided that the tetracarboxylic acid compound is not 1,2,3,4-butane tetracarboxylic acid, and
- wherein the composition does not comprise a silicate, and
- wherein the composition does not comprise a phosphate.
A corrosion inhibitor composition, comprising:
- a tetracarboxylic acid compound selected from the group consisting of C3-C12 alkyl tetracarboxylic acid, C3-C12 aryl tetracarboxylic acid, C3-C12 cycloalkyl tetra carboxylic acid, aspartic acid N,N bis(carboxymethyl)-3-hydroxy, any salt thereof, and any combination thereof, and
- wherein the composition does not comprise a silicate, and
- wherein the composition does not comprise a phosphate.
