Generating catalog-item recommendations based on social graph data

One or more computer-readable non-transitory storage media embodying software that is operable when executed to:

• access a social graph maintained by an online social network, the social graph comprising a plurality of nodes and a plurality of edges connecting the nodes, each edge representing a relationship between two of the nodes;
• receive an indication that a first user of the online social network has interacted with a content object posted by a second user of the online social network, wherein the content object is associated with a first entity that corresponds to a particular node in the social graph;
• access user data associated with the first user and entity data associated with the first entity;
• in response to receiving the indication, determine that a number of additional second users of the online social network having a connection to the first user in the social graph and also having a connection to the first entity in the social graph satisfies a threshold number;
• in response to receiving the indication and determining that the number of additional second users satisfies the threshold number, generate a prompt comprising an interactive element facilitating the first user to perform an action involving the first entity, wherein the prompt references the second user and the content object posted by the second user;
• and
• send at least the prompt to a client device of the first user for display on a display screen of the client device.

A system comprising:

• one or more processors;
• and
• one or more computer-readable non-transitory storage media coupled to one or more of the processors and comprising instructions operable when executed by one or more of the processors to cause the system to:
• access a social graph maintained by an online social network, the social graph comprising a plurality of nodes and a plurality of edges connecting the nodes, each edge representing a relationship between two of the nodes;
• receive an indication that a first user of the online social network has interacted with a content object posted by a second user of the online social network, wherein the content object is associated with a first entity that corresponds to a particular node in the social graph;
• access user data associated with the first user and entity data associated with the first entity;
• in response to receiving the indication, determine that a number of additional second users of the online social network having a connection to the first user in the social graph and also having a connection to the first entity in the social graph satisfies a threshold number;
• in response to receiving the indication and determining that the number of additional second users satisfies the threshold number, generate a prompt comprising an interactive element facilitating the first user to perform an action involving the first entity, wherein the prompt references the second user and the content object posted by the second user;
• and
• send at least the prompt to a client device of the first user for display on a display screen of the client device.
