Determining whether to destage write data in cache to storage based on whether the write data has malicious data

A system for processing data directed to a storage, comprising:

• a processor;
• a cache;
• and
• a computer readable storage medium having computer readable program code that when executed by the processor performs operations, the operations comprising:
• initiating a destaging operation to select an entry of write data to destage according to an ordering of a list of entries in the cache;
• in response to the initiating the destaging operation, determining whether the write data in the selected entry that when compressed as compressed write data is below a compression ratio, wherein the write data comprises random data when the compressed write data is below the compression ratio;
• destaging the write data to the storage in response to the determining that the compressed write data is not below the compression ratio;
• and
• processing the write data as malicious data after the determining that the compressed write data comprises random data.

A method for processing data in cache directed to a storage, comprising:

• initiating a destaging operation to select an entry of write data to destage according to an ordering of a list of entries in the cache;
• in response to the initiating the destaging operation, determining whether the write data in the selected entry that when compressed as compressed write data is below a compression ratio, wherein the write data comprises random data when the compressed write data is below the compression ratio;
• destaging the write data to the storage in response to the determining that the compressed write data is not below the compression ratio;
• and
• processing the write data as malicious data after the determining that the compressed write data comprises random data.
