Object store file system format for representing, storing, and retrieving data in an object store according to a structured format

A non-transitory machine readable medium comprising instructions for performing a method, which when executed by a machine, causes the machine to:

• represent data, stored within a plurality of slots of an object according to an object file system of an object store, as a data structure comprising a plurality of nodes represented by cloud block numbers, wherein a cloud block number of a node comprises a sequence number used to uniquely identify the object and a slot number of a slot comprising a portion of the data represented by the node;
• maintain a mapping metafile that maps block numbers, used by computing device to locally store the data within primary storage, to cloud block numbers of nodes representing portions of the data stored within the slots of the object;
• store the object from the computing device into the object store;
• and
• utilize the mapping metafile to obtain access through the object file system to portions of data within the slots of the object in the object store, wherein the nodes of the data structure are traversed to identify the node assigned the cloud block number comprising the sequence number of the object and the slot number of the slot, and wherein the sequence number and the slot number of the cloud block number are used to access the portion of the data within the slot of the object.

A computing device comprising:

• a memory comprising machine executable code for performing a method;
• and
• a processor coupled to the memory, the processor configured to execute the machine executable code to cause the processor to:
• represent data, stored within a plurality of slots of an object according to an object file system of an object store, as a data structure comprising a plurality of nodes represented by cloud block numbers, wherein a cloud block number of a node comprises a sequence number used to uniquely identify the object and a slot number of a slot comprising a portion of the data represented by the node;
• maintain a mapping metafile that maps block numbers, used by computing device to locally store the data within primary storage, to cloud block numbers of nodes representing portions of the data stored within the slots of the object;
• store the object from the computing device into the object store;
• and
• utilize the mapping metafile to obtain access through the object file system to portions of data within the slots of the object in the object store, wherein the nodes of the data structure are traversed to identify the node assigned the cloud block number comprising the sequence number of the object and the slot number of the slot, and wherein the sequence number and the slot number of the cloud block number are used to access the portion of the data within the slot of the object.
