Automatic data preservation for potentially compromised encoded data slices

A security module of a dispersed storage network (DSN), the security module comprises:

• an interface;
• memory;
• and
• a processing module operably coupled to the memory and the interface, wherein the processing module is operable to:
• detect a potentially compromised encoded data slice of a set of encoded data slices, wherein a data segment of a data object is dispersed storage error encoded to produce the set of encoded data slices, wherein the set of encoded data slices is stored in a set of storage units of the DSN, and wherein the potentially compromised encoded data slice is stored in a storage unit of the set of storage units;
• monitor other storage units of the set of storage units in order to detect one or more other potentially compromised encoded data slices of the set of encoded data slices;
• and
• when the one or more other potentially compromised encoded data slices are detected:
• determine a data compromise threat level based on a total number of potentially compromised encoded data slices, a type of data compromise associated with the potentially compromised encoded data slices, a time period associated with the potentially compromised encoded data slices, and one or more user computing devices associated with the potentially compromised encoded data slices;
• and
• enable an automatic data preservation protocol based on the data compromise threat level, wherein the automatic data preservation protocol includes:
• one or more data preservation options, one or more data tracking options, and one or more notification options.
