Dolomite mapping using multiscale fracture characterization

A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing instructions executable by a computer system, the instructions when executed by the computer system cause the computer system to:

• receive seismic data for a geographical area;
• identify one or more macroscale fractures located within the geographical area based on a three-dimensional (3D) visualization of the seismic data;
• identify one or more mesoscale fractures located within the geographical area based on a curvature map generated from the seismic data;
• identify one or more microscale fractures located within the geographical area based on an amount of chaotic seismic reflections indicated by the seismic data, wherein the chaotic seismic reflections are indicative of a lack of lateral continuity in the geographical area;
• aggregate the one or more macroscale fractures, the one or more mesoscale fractures, and the one or more microscale fractures into a composite fracture map of the geographical location;
• identify, based on the composite fracture map, a dolomite distribution of the geographical area;
• and
• generate, on a display device of the computer system, a graphical representation of the dolomite distribution.

A computer system comprising:

• one or more computer processors;
• and
• a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing instructions executable by the one or more computer processors, the instructions when executed by the one or more computer processors cause the one or more computer processors to:
• receive seismic data for a geographical area;
• identify one or more macroscale fractures located within the geographical area based on a three-dimensional (3D) visualization of the seismic data;
• identify one or more mesoscale fractures located within the geographical area based on a curvature map generated from the seismic data;
• identify one or more microscale fractures located within the geographical area based on an amount of chaotic seismic reflections indicated by the seismic data, wherein the chaotic seismic reflections are indicative of a lack of lateral continuity in the geographical area;
• aggregate the one or more macroscale fractures, the one or more mesoscale fractures, and the one or more microscale fractures into a composite fracture map of the geographical location;
• identify, based on the composite fracture map, a dolomite distribution of the geographical area;
• and
• generate, on a display device of the computer system, a graphical representation of the dolomite distribution.
