Multi-material stretchable optical, electronic and optoelectronic fibers and ribbons composites via thermal drawing

A thermal drawing method for forming a fiber comprising the steps of:

• providing a preform of a material for the fiber;
• heating the material such that the preform necks down under its own weight and produces a lower end;
• and
• continuously drawing a fiber from the lower end of the preform,
• wherein the material includes an elastomer.
