Abstract
An implantable medical device (IMD) may include a housing having a proximal end and a distal end and a set of one or more electrodes connected to but spaced apart from the housing. The IMD may further include a controller disposed within the housing, wherein the controller is configured to sense cardiac electrical signals, and deliver electrical stimulation pulses via the first set of one or more electrodes. In some embodiments, a first portion of the housing is configured to be disposed at least partly within a coronary sinus of a patient's heart and a second portion of the housing is configured to be disposed at least partly within a right atrium of the patient's heart.
Claims19
An implantable medical device (IMD) comprising:
- a first portion having a battery and control electronics, the first portion configured to be disposed at least partially within the coronary sinus of a patient's heart, the first portion including a guide wire entrance port;
- a second portion extending distally from the first portion, the second portion carrying one or more electrodes that are operatively coupled to the control electronics in the first portion, wherein a distal end of the first portion has a larger lateral cross-section than a proximal end of the second portion, and wherein a geometric center of a smaller lateral cross-section of the proximal end of the second portion is offset relative to a geometric center of the larger lateral cross-section of the distal end of the first portion;
- and
- the second portion including a guide wire exit port, wherein the IMD defines a guide wire lumen that extends between the guide wire entrance port of the first portion and the guide wire exit port of the second portion.
An implantable medical device (IMD) comprising:
- a body having a proximal end and a distal end, wherein the body is configured to be disposed at least partially within the coronary sinus of a patient's heart, the body housing a battery and control electronics;
- an extension having a length and extending distally from the body, the extension configured to traverse down the great cardiac vein of the patient's heart and along at least part of the left ventricle, at least part of the extension being more flexible than the body;
- one or more electrodes supported by the extension distally of the body and operatively coupled to the control electronics housed by the body, at least one of the one or more electrodes positioned at a longitudinal location along the length of the extension so as to be adjacent the left ventricle of the patient's heart;
- a guide wire entrance port on a first side wall of the IMD distal of the proximal end of the body;
- a guide wire exit port distal of the guide wire entrance port, wherein the IMD defines a guide wire lumen extending between the guide wire entrance port and the guide wire exit port such that a guidewire can pass alongside at least part of the body within the coronary sinus before entering the guide wire entrance port;
- and
- wherein a distal portion of the extension has a smaller lateral cross-section than the body, and the distal portion of the extension is laterally offset relative to the body toward the first side wall of the body.
An implantable medical device (IMD) comprising:
- a body having a length extending between a proximal end and a distal end, wherein the body is configured to be disposed at least partially within the coronary sinus of a patient's heart, the body having a battery and control electronics, the body comprising a guide wire port;
- an extension having a length that extends distally from the body, the extension is configured to traverse down the great cardiac vein of the patient's heart and along at least part of the left ventricle, the proximal end of the extension including a guide wire lumen in communication with the guide wire port;
- and
- a proximal end of the extension having a smaller cross sectional area than a distal end of the body and has a geometric center that is laterally offset from a geometric center of the distal end of the body.
