Abstract
An apparatus and method for collecting fluid are disclosed. The apparatus includes a body portion comprising a fluid inlet and an outlet, an expandable container secured to the body portion, at least one wicking element extending from within the body portion into the container, and at least one super absorber element arranged inside the container.
Claims17
Fluid collection apparatus for use in a negative pressure wound therapy procedure, comprising:
- an expandable container, the container comprising:
- a body portion comprising a fluid inlet and an outlet and defining a fluid flow path between the inlet and the outlet;
- the expandable container in the form of a flexible bag;
- wherein the flexible bag contains wicking material configured to wick fluid away from the fluid flow path and super absorber material configured to trap and store fluid removed from a wound site;
- and
- a wound dressing configured to be in fluid communication with the fluid inlet of the body portion.
