Abstract
Single filter and multi-filter endolumenal methods and systems for filtering fluids within the body. In some embodiments a blood filtering system captures and removes particulates dislodged or generated during a surgical procedure and circulating in a patient's vasculature. In some embodiments a filter system protects the cerebral vasculature during a cardiac valve repair or replacement procedure.
Claims13
A method of isolating a cerebral circulation during a procedure, comprising the steps of:
- advancing a distal-most end of a proximal sheath having a proximal sheath lumen through a right subclavian artery to within a brachiocephalic artery;
- extending a distal shaft coaxially from the proximal sheath lumen, through an aorta, and into a left common carotid artery, wherein the distal shaft of the extending step includes a distal sheath, wherein a proximal end of the distal sheath and the distal-most end of the proximal sheath face each other in a delivery configuration and each have substantially the same outer diameter;
- opening a first filter within the brachiocephalic artery;
- subsequently opening a second filter within the left common carotid artery;
- and thereafter performing the procedure on a patient's heart.
