Abstract
An ostomy bag can include one or more sensors for measuring one or more metrics. An ostomy wafer can also include one or more sensors for measuring one or more metrics. The sensors can be temperature sensors and/or capacitive sensors, for example, and the metrics can include bag fill, leakage, skin irritation, and phase of stoma output, among others.
Claims28
An ostomy barrier configured to be used in an ostomy system that includes an ostomy bag, the ostomy barrier comprising:
- a moldable adhesive layer configured to adhere to skin around a stoma of a user, the moldable adhesive layer comprising an opening configured to accommodate the stoma, wherein the adhesive layer comprises hydrocolloid adhesives and, when adhered to the skin around the stoma, is configured to provide a leak barrier around the stoma;
- and
- an array of temperature sensors coupled with the adhesive layer, wherein the array of temperature sensors are located circumferentially entirely around the opening of the moldable adhesive layer and configured to measure a temperature of the adhesive layer or the skin around the stoma of the user, wherein the array of temperature sensors are configured to output temperature readings to a processor, the processor configured to detect a leak based at least in part on the temperature readings of the array of temperature sensors.
An ostomy barrier configured to be used in an ostomy system that includes an ostomy bag, the ostomy barrier comprising:
- an adhesive layer configured to adhere to skin around a stoma of a user, the adhesive layer configured to provide a leak barrier around the stoma;
- and
- an array of temperature sensors coupled with the adhesive layer so that, when the adhesive layer is adhered to the skin around the stoma, the array of temperature sensors form a circle so as to be located around the stoma and measure a temperature of the adhesive layer or the skin around the stoma of the user,
- wherein the array of sensors are configured to be in electrical communication with a processor so that signals from the array of sensors are configured to be electrically communicated to the processor, the processor configured to detect a leak based at least in part on the signals from the array of temperature sensors.
An ostomy barrier configured to be used in an ostomy system that includes an ostomy bag, the ostomy barrier comprising:
- an adhesive layer configured to provide a leak barrier around a stoma of a user, wherein the adhesive layer comprises an opening configured to accommodate the stoma, a size of the opening being adjustable based on a size of the stoma;
- and
- an array of electronic temperature sensors coupled with the adhesive layer and located around the opening, wherein at least some electronic temperature sensors of the array of electronic temperature sensors that are located closer to the opening are substantially equally spaced around the opening, wherein the array of electronic temperature sensors are configured to output temperature readings to a processor, the processor configured to detect a leak based at least in part on the temperature readings of the array of electronic temperature sensors.
An ostomy system comprising:
- an ostomy bag;
- and
- an ostomy barrier comprising:
- an adhesive layer configured to provide a leak barrier around a stoma of a user;
- and
- an array of temperature sensors coupled with the adhesive layer so that, when the adhesive layer is adhered to skin around the stoma, the array of temperature sensors form a circle so as to be located around the stoma,
- wherein the array of temperature sensors are configured to be in electrical communication with a processor so that signals from the array of temperature sensors are configured to electrically communicated to the processor, the processor configured to detect a leak based at least in part on the signals from the array of temperature sensors.
