Abstract
Presented herein are compositions and methods for the long-term in vitro culturing of Treponema species such as T. pallidum. Culture media and systems for Treponema culture are also provided.

A culture medium comprising CMRL 1066 without L-Glutamine or Phenol Red, sodium pyruvate, Resazurin, MOPS, HaHCO3, fetal bovine serum, L-Glutamine, L-Histidine, D-Mannitol, D-Glucose and DL-Dithiothreitol.
